Earth Hour 2007 was a Sydney event.
Earth Hour 2008 is a global movement.

Created to take a stand against the greatest threat our planet has ever faced, Earth Hour uses the simple action of turning off the lights for one hour to deliver a powerful message about the need for action on global warming.
About Earth Hour

On March 31 2007, for one hour, Sydney made a powerful statement about the greatest contributor to global warming – coal-fired electricity – by turning off its lights. Over 2.2 million Sydney residents and over 2,100 businesses switched off, leading to a 10.2% energy reduction across the city. What began as one city taking a stand against global warming caught the attention of the world.

In 2008, 24 global cities will participate in Earth Hour at 8pm on March 29. Earth Hour is the highlight of a major campaign to encourage businesses, communities and individuals to take the simple steps needed to cut their emissions on an ongoing basis. It is about simple changes that will collectively make a difference – from businesses turning off their lights when their offices are empty, to see the difference you can see the difference you can make 8pm March 29 households turning off appliances rather than leaving them on standby.

I was eagerly waiting for 8pm while I was working to go and have a look at the city skyline. The usual glow of the clouds/smog that surrounds the centre of the city wasn't there, which is great. I just wish it would happen all night and every night when all the office buildings are empty and theres absolutely no need to leave all the lights on. I'm really glad that this is at global attention.
Oh and ur listening to gotye? awesome... do u like?

No city in sweden wants to join this Event - and media is not very eager to show it either - but hopefully we can spread it the old fashioned way - from person to person.

I started sending out chain mails to my friends and hopefully it will have spread by now :)

I just wish that the cities would take more concideration into this here in sweden. There are so many office buildings that are lit during the night when no one is there.

We still have a few more hours to go before it's 8pm :)
I am waiting eagerly!

I love you!!!

The Sears tower and the John Handcock building shut down power here in Chicago! We had a candlelight yoga class, it was lots of fun :D

When you've seen beyond yourself then you may find, peace of mind is waiting there. And the time will come when you see we're all One, and life flows on within you and without you.
