The EU wants to monitor your blog

Journal Entry: Thu Jun 26, 2008, 7:55 AM
EU wants to monitor your blog

A preposition regarding registration and supervision of bloggers has been voted in the European Parliament. The initiator Marianne Mikko, advocates this because she believes that bloggers can “ pollute ” cyberspace.

The preposition is meant to clearify the legal position of bloggers and to protect the “multitude of the media.” Media plays an important role to protect democracy, and blogs are an important contribution to the multitude. But they add that there exists a need to control that incorrect information isn’t spread.

“The blogosphere has so far been a place for good intentions and relatively honest purposes. But when blogging gets trivial, people with less principels wants to use this service. They are then in a position where they can do serious pollution to cyberspace. We already have too much spam, incorrect information and evil intents in cyberspace” says the Estonian initiator Marianne Mikko in a statement.

She wants a quality mark on the bloggs, in reality this means that she wants to know who writes what, and why.

- “If we see a name and a picture on the one who writes the blog, it will benefit the freedom of speech. If a blogger insults or manipulates we will be able to find out who stands behind the blog” says Marianne Mikko

Freedom of speech is being able to speak freely without censorship. The right to freedom of speech is guaranteed under international law through numerous human-rights instruments, notably under Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Article 10 of the European Convention on Human Rights, although implementation remains lacking in many countries. The synonymous term freedom of expression is sometimes preferred, since the right is not confined to verbal speech but is understood to protect any act of seeking, receiving and imparting information or ideas, regardless of the medium used.

No matter if we speak our mind on the streets - no matter if we speak our mind in a newspaper - no matter where we speak our mind we should have the right to say it. And something that really bugs me is WHO will DECIDE WHAT IS TRUE AND WHAT IS FALSE. And on what basis will they be able sort the opinions out? Do they mean that there is someone in the EU Parliament that holds the book of Ultimate Truth?

This is real life - there are no rights and wrongs - the world isn’t as simple as that. One persons truth can differ from another. And this is something that really can be seen in e.g POLITICS. There are no rights and wrongs in the opinions among politicians. Each party has the right to speak their minds. Why shouldn’t we?

And I don’t understand why blogs on the internet are such a big threat to “democracy” and to “disinformation”… What is next then? Shall the government monitor the newspapers/news broadcasts as well? Will they not stop until they supervise everything written and said. And I still wonder WHO will decide what’s right or wrong…

Where’s the world coming to?
And what scares me the most is that this law will be decided by old people who have no idea what exactly the internet and the blogosphere means to people…

Also: If this preposition will win; European internet users will have to pay to watch sites containing amateur work of art.. like eg. DEVIANTART or YOUTUBE. Because apparently amateur artists are "threatening" proffessional artists on the internet.. in some way....

Don't ask me how they are thinking..

Global Earth Hour 2008 INFORMATION

Journal Entry: Sat Mar 29, 2008, 4:15 AM

Earth Hour 2007 was a Sydney event.
Earth Hour 2008 is a global movement.

Created to take a stand against the greatest threat our planet has ever faced, Earth Hour uses the simple action of turning off the lights for one hour to deliver a powerful message about the need for action on global warming.
About Earth Hour

On March 31 2007, for one hour, Sydney made a powerful statement about the greatest contributor to global warming – coal-fired electricity – by turning off its lights. Over 2.2 million Sydney residents and over 2,100 businesses switched off, leading to a 10.2% energy reduction across the city. What began as one city taking a stand against global warming caught the attention of the world.

In 2008, 24 global cities will participate in Earth Hour at 8pm on March 29. Earth Hour is the highlight of a major campaign to encourage businesses, communities and individuals to take the simple steps needed to cut their emissions on an ongoing basis. It is about simple changes that will collectively make a difference – from businesses turning off their lights when their offices are empty, to see the difference you can see the difference you can make 8pm March 29 households turning off appliances rather than leaving them on standby.

Merry Christmas

Journal Entry: Thu Dec 20, 2007, 1:58 PM
Merry Christmas to all of you wonderful beings out there. I appreciate all your friendship, your comments, your thoughts and your unconditional love.

Be kind to eachother. Not only because it's Christmas. Remember that a stranger is a friend you do not yet know. Remember to hug eachother. Take care of eachother. The most important thing you have in life is not the money you have on your bank, or your job, or all of your high tech things/regular products you just bought - thinking they would make your life easier.

What's really important is human contact. Human interaction.
Unconditional love. To be there for one another.

I think the society we live in, is about to loose this very important thing; to realize that our security we have in life is not money, or things, or job - it's friendship, and love, and to care for one another.

Money will never give you happiness. Your things/high tech stuff will never be more than a mere substitute for the love you lack. And your job will always take time from you. Time in replacement of green paper bills which you buy things with to comfort you in that little cramped time you have left before you have to go to work again.

And as you get old. You will probably miss your youth.. Have all the time in the world - but your body is too tired to work as you please.

Spread love. And live every day without regrets. We have the power to change life the way we want it to be. Change is not bad. Change doesn't have mean you have to give things up. Change is what we need. To keep moving forward.

To belive this industrialistic/materialistic age would work in the long run is absurd. We need to start think new. To start reach out for other people. And place our energy where it belongs; for all our loved ones. And for all of mankind.

We can do it. I know we can.
We just need to take that extra step. That tiny little step. And start living the way it was meant for us to live. Helping others.

Because you are not free - until everyone is free.

That is, I believe, the key...

Love. Unconditional love.
